Sue was born in Walsall in the West Midlands and came to Nottingham as a student. She has lived in West Bridgford for 29 years. Sue has a First Class Honours Degree and worked as a teacher for many years. She now works as a Play Development Officer for Nottingham City Council.
Sue has two daughters, Lizzie and Alice, aged 22 and 18, and has recently married fellow Green Councillor, Richard Mallender.
Sue is very active in the local community. She has been secretary of Lady Bay Community Association since 1987 and has been vice-chair of governors of her local primary school. She is vice-chair of a local Friends of the Park group. Sue takes part in many local activities such as:
Sue was elected as councillor for Lady Bay ward on Rushcliffe Borough Council in May 2003. And re-elected, with an increased majority, in 2007. She is now the Leader of the Green Group on Rushcliffe Borough Council. Sue has been active in the Green Party since 1983. As a Green candidate for Europe in 1989 she achieved 18% of the vote in the region, and would have been elected as a Green MEP under the new, proportional voting system. She has stood in the East Midlands as a European election candidate for the Green Party in 1994, 1999 and 2004.
